Welsh School of Architecture
Established in 1920, the Welsh School of Architecture combines a strong tradition of architectural education with an international reputation for research excellence in key aspects of the built environment. The School provides a vibrant collaborative environment with staff and students from diverse national, cultural and professional backgrounds and a strong studio culture. We are located in the cosmopolitan capital city of Wales and see our contribution to the cultural life of Cardiff and Wales as a significant part of our identity.
The Welsh School of Architecture is one of the top schools of architecture in the UK, as indicated by our position in key league tables and professional rankings. For the past three years we have been listed among the top 50 schools specialising in architecture and the built environment in the QS World Rankings. We have high rankings for student satisfaction, coming top in the Russell Group of 24 leading UK universities for overall student satisfaction in the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS). In 2017, the 100 largest UK architectural practices also ranked us in the top three best schools in the country. Our long-standing record of teaching excellence means that our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are popular and our graduates in high demand.
Our research spans the physical sciences, social sciences, humanities and design to foster excellence in key areas of architecture and the built environment. Our internationally recognised academics work closely with our thriving postgraduate research community on many research projects which have a significant impact on the built environment and the profession, developing innovative building practices, changing behaviours and creating sustainable design solutions.
We have productive research links with practice, industry and with universities in other countries. We also work closely with local communities to enable the sharing of our expertise to achieve common goals.
