School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy

About us
The School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy is a multi-discipline School with research and teaching activities covering a broad range of cutting-edge science. Degrees are offered in Pharmacy, Chemistry (and associated 'Chemistry with' programmes), Food Science, Food Science with Business, Food Technology with Bioprocessing, Nutrition and Food Science and Nutrition with Food Consumer Sciences. The School also offers a number of continuing professional development courses. Research activities are very broad, ranging from pure and applied life science through material science to physics; areas of interest include:pharmacology, drug design, development and delivery, functional foods, nutrition, flavour chemistry, polymer and nanoscience, atmospheric chemistry and the physics of surfaces. The School has a state-of-the-art Chemical Analysis Facility, and shares a Biophysical and Pharmaceutical Science Building with the School of Biological Sciences.

Chemistry
Chemistry at Reading is a thriving and vibrant department which has benefited from over £15 million expenditure by the University over the past ten years. There are 25 full-time academic staff in the Department, all of whom are active in research as well as undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision. These posts included a joint Professorship between Chemistry and Diamond, the UK's new cutting-edge national synchrotron research facility which is adjacent to the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, just a short drive from our 

Food and Nutritional Sciences
Food and Nutritional Sciences is the largest University department of its kind in the UK, and has 24 full-time academic staff.  The overall aim of the Department is to deliver international levels of research and teaching in the food biosciences using modern advanced technologies and inter-disciplinary expertise.

Pharmacy
Reading School of Pharmacy was established in 2004 with a £7 million investment from the University as a centre of excellence in pharmacy education and research that aims to produce well qualified pharmacists for the 21st century.
