Description
This degree programme combines a strong grounding in the functional areas of business with a specialist focus on IT and is designed to prepare graduates for responsible and professional managerial roles in the IT sector, as well as in other areas.
About the programme
The programme explores the key themes and emerging challenges facing business in a global context. Focusing closely on areas ranging from strategy, human resource management and organisational behaviour to e-business, software engineering and databases, you will gain an understanding of both business and IT operations and develop the ability to design and develop IT applications as well as effectively evaluate IT specific needs within an organisation. You will also examine areas including strategy, marketing and ethics. In the third year you will undertake a paid one-year work placement, that will significantly enhance your CV and future graduate employment prospects, help you to build a professional network and provide a valuable opportunity to apply and further develop your knowledge and skills. In some cases a successful placement may lead to the offer of a permanent role within the same organisation upon graduation.
In the fourth and final year there are no core modules. You will instead examine areas already studied at a more advanced level and select from a wide range of optional modules, allowing you to tailor your degree towards your own needs and aims. This programme is strongly industry oriented and can provide an excellent platform from which to launch a successful career in the IT sector as well as in information intensive organisations.
Example graduate roles include analyst/ programmer, web developer, project manager, applications developer and software engineer. It can also provide a route into many other areas.
