Description
This degree gives you the opportunity to study Rome’s history, archaeology, topography, demography, art and architecture – from antiquity to the present.
Join our Department of Classics, which is ranked 6th in the UK for research overall, 3rd in the UK for research output (Times Higher Education Institutions Ranked by Subject, 2014, based on its analysis of REF 2014 - Classics), and 100% of our research impact has been recognised as world leading or internationally excellent (Research Excellence Framework, 2014 - Classics).
During the course, you will spend one term on residential study at the British School in Rome. Our tailored "Approaches to Rome" module prepares you thoroughly for this time in Italy.
The course features small-group teaching and, while at Reading, you will benefit from facilities including the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology , the University Library and a dedicated postgraduate room in the heart of the Classics Department. We are located just a short distance from Oxford and London, where you can visit major collections important for research in classics and ancient history.
Prominent research from our team includes Matthew Nicholls’ digital model of Rome, and its associated commercial and public-facing spinoffs, including, for example, our MOOC on Rome.
Please note that the residential field school at the British School in Rome is arranged by separate application and requires you to pay accommodation and travel costs.
