Research in Archaeology is nurtured by world-class research clusters that provide an interdisciplinary environment for engagement within and across themes, projects and regional studies. These research clusters focus on advancing social and scientific approaches to past communities and environments and issues of fundamental significance, including climate and environmental change, health, diet, social diversity and inclusivity, and cultural heritage. We benefit from state-of-the art resources for science-based archaeological research and have strong research links and collaborations with departments across the University, as well as external institutions.
As an MSc Environmental Archaeology student, you can take an optional "Research and enterprise placement" module, during which you will be placed with a member of staff, a unit or with a local environmental agency. Students also work with Quaternary Scientific (QUEST). QUEST is the School’s enterprise unit and provides archaeological, forensic and environmental scientific services to industry. Through these opportunities, you will gain experience of working within a commercial environment.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in staff research excavations in Europe (Crusades Project), the Isle of Islay or take a study trip to Turkey.
